position: decriminalization

So, I've been thinking of different topics for my position paper, and even though marijuana is one of the topics we're supposed to stay away from, I still am interested in using it as a topic. Maybe not so much the legalization of it, but more so the decriminalization, especiall here in california.

with the economy in the state its in, we shouldnt be spending countless tax dollars imprisoning people for smoking pot on their own time. Because its more or less the same as having a drink after work. Just personal preference.

Decriminalizing it would also free up countless cops who waste away there days handing out tickets for possession when they could be fighting real crimes, and stopping real injustices.

as for the opposition, it only exists because people are unaware or misinformed. many people dont even know that our founding fathers grew marijuana plants to use the hemp to make materials the british had imposed large taxes on, so they wouldn't have to pay the taxes they used hemp to make equivalent products. So without hemp, and the marijuana plant whose to say we would have ever escaped british rule hundreds of years ago.
